What we get called out to in Lindfield
- Roots in long sewer lines. Big gardens and old trees mean more joints and more roots.
- Original pipework. Clay sewer and galvanised water pipe in older houses, replaced or relined.
- New apartment buildings. Strata plumbing, hot water plant and common drains.
- Hot water replacements. The right size and type for the house, including heat pumps.
- Roofs and gutters. Leaves and big trees keep gutters busy.

In more detail
The three we get called about most
Roots in long lines
Big gardens and old trees, and a sewer line that runs a long way from the house to the main. More joints, more roots, and a blockage that is rarely where you would guess.
We camera the whole run rather than clearing the first obstruction and leaving. You get the footage and the depth readings, so the next plumber who ever looks at it starts from something real.
Blocked drainsHot water
Original tanks in Federation houses, and undersized ones in houses that have had a bathroom added since. Both get found out the same way.
We size the replacement for the house as it is now. Gas, electric and heat pump, repaired where a repair makes sense, replaced where it does not, old unit taken away.
Hot waterBathrooms
Renovating a Lindfield bathroom usually means finding original pipework and falls behind the old tiles, which is better found at rough-in than at fit-off.
We run the plumbing side start to finish, work in with your builder and designer, and get the waterproofing done properly and certified before anything is tiled over it.

How we work with you
What happens from the first phone call
-
You get in touch
Ring the office, send the form or email us. For anything urgent, ring — we will tell you what it usually means and what to do while we are on the way, like where your water meter is.
-
We come and look
For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it properly first, and there is no charge for that visit. Guessing at a price over the phone helps nobody.
-
You get the price in writing
The job priced, not an hourly rate ticking over. If there is more than one sensible way to do it, you get both options and the difference between them explained.
-
We do the work
Our own licenced plumbers, on the day we said. Drop sheets down, the mess taken away, and a phone call rather than silence if we are running behind.
-
You see what we found
Photos, camera footage where we used it, and a plain explanation of what was actually wrong. If something is not right afterwards, ring us and we come back and put it right at our cost.
A job we did here
A Lindfield bathroom renovation, plumbing side
The problem
A Lindfield family were renovating a dated bathroom and needed the plumbing done around a fixed build programme. Old fixtures out, new water efficient tapware, a new shower system and underfloor heating in, and no room in the schedule for surprises.
What we did
We worked directly with them and their builder from the start rather than turning up at rough-in. We went through the fittings before they were ordered so nothing arrived that would not work with the existing lines, brought the pipework up to current standards while the walls were open, and set the falls and the waterproofing properly before tiling.
The result
Finished on the builder's programme and on the price quoted. The parts that matter are behind the tiles, so they have the certificates and the photos of what went in before it was covered up.

The work we have actually done in Lindfield
Our job records run from 2016. Since then we have completed 182 jobs in Lindfield.
That is the figure out of our job management system, not a number we made up for the website. It is also why we can usually tell you on the phone what a problem probably is before anyone gets in a ute.
The most common of them
- 80 taps, toilets and everyday repairs
- 32 sewer and stormwater repairs
- 24 blocked drains cleared
- 22 hot water repairs and replacements
- 15 roofing and guttering
Plenty of jobs cover more than one of these, so the numbers overlap rather than add up.
About the suburb
Plumbing in Lindfield
Lindfield, postcode 2070, is the first of the Upper North Shore suburbs past Chatswood, with the Pacific Highway and the railway running through the middle and the shops on the highway and around Lindfield Avenue. It's a suburb of big Federation and interwar houses on tree-lined streets like Tryon Road and Provincial Road, with newer apartment buildings near the station and West Lindfield running down to the Lane Cove River.
The houses set the plumbing. A Lindfield home from the 1910s or 20s has an earthenware sewer with roots in the joints, a galvanised water service that has narrowed inside, and long pipe runs across a big block. Most blocked drains we clear here are roots from the street trees and the old gardens, and clearing them only buys time. We camera the line, jet it and reline it so the roots stay out and the garden stays intact.
Poor pressure is the other common call. A galvanised service that's rusted to half its bore can't feed two bathrooms and a garden at once. We replace the service from the meter in copper, and we check the main stop tap while we're there, because in these houses it's often seized.
A lot of Lindfield houses have been extended, had bathrooms and kitchens added, or had a studio or granny flat put in the back garden. Where those were tied into the old drains badly is usually where the trouble is now. We find those joins with the camera and fix them, and we do the plumbing for a new extension properly from the start.
The apartment buildings near the station and along the highway share their sewer stacks, stormwater and hot water between all the units. That's strata work, and we do it with the strata manager in the loop, with camera footage and a written finding the committee can act on. Storms come through hard on the ridge, and the box gutters and downpipes on the older houses are often original. Roof plumbing is part of what we do.
Lindfield is part of our regular Upper North Shore run. STS has been based in Lane Cove since 2016, a short run up the highway. Ring us for anything urgent, or ask us to come and look at a bigger job. There's no charge for the site visit.

Jeni O'Dowd, Google reviewQuestions we get asked in Lindfield
What does a plumber in Lindfield cost?
It depends on the job, which is why we price the job rather than run an hourly rate. For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it first, at no charge, and you get the price in writing before we start.
Are your plumbers licenced and insured?
Yes. STS Plumbing Co Pty Ltd holds NSW licence 227192C and carries insurance, and the blokes who turn up are our own team, not subcontracted labour.
How quickly can you get here?
Our office is open Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we call back within 24 hours, guaranteed. For anything urgent, ring rather than fill in the form and we will tell you what it usually means and when we can be there.
Do you work on units and commercial buildings?
Yes. A good share of our work is strata and commercial across the North Shore, and it comes with photos and a written finding a building manager or committee can act on.
Can you work in with our builder on a renovation?
Yes, and it goes better when we are in early. Booking us at rough-in is how tapware gets ordered that will not fit the existing lines and how falls end up wrong. We would rather spend half an hour on the plans than a week fixing it later.
Do you warrant your work?
Yes. If something is not right after we have left, ring us and we will come back and put it right at our cost. That is part of the STS Guarantee above.
