Plumber in Longueville

Sewer repairs, drains, roofing and bathrooms across Longueville, where big homes sit on steep blocks running down to the Lane Cove River.

What we get called out to in Longueville

  • Steep waterfront blocks. Long sewer and stormwater runs down the hill, and pumps where gravity cannot do the job.
  • Sandstone. Excavation priced properly after we have looked, not guessed at.
  • Relining to save the garden. A new pipe inside the old one when there is landscaping, paving or a pool in the way.
  • Waterfront roofs. Flashings, gutters and skylights that face the weather.
  • Large bathrooms and kitchens. Renovations run by the licenced trade that has to sign off the plumbing.

Longueville is next door to Lane Cove, where we have been based since 2016.

What we do here

In more detail

The three we get called about most

Sewer on a steep block

Longueville houses run down the hill to the river, which means long sewer and stormwater lines, hard access, and pumps where gravity cannot do the job on its own.

We camera the line and locate the fault before quoting, because a repair fifty metres down a slope is a completely different job to one at the front fence. Pump wells serviced and replaced too.

Sewer repairs

Relining to save the garden

Landscaping, sandstone paving, pools and retaining walls all sit on top of the pipe that eventually needs work. Digging is not the problem, putting it all back is.

Where the pipe is sound enough, relining puts a new pipe inside the old one with nothing to reinstate afterwards. Where it has collapsed we will tell you plainly that digging is the only real answer.

Pipe relining

Roofs and gutters

Big roofs, mature trees and weather off the water. Valleys fill, flashings corrode and box gutters overflow inwards.

We trace a roof leak back to the actual cause instead of sealing the nearest likely spot, then repair or replace what is causing it. Skylights, flashings, gutters and downpipes.

Roofing and gutters

It’s an emergency! I’d better ring STS.

How we work with you

What happens from the first phone call

  1. You get in touch

Ring the office, send the form or email us. For anything urgent, ring — we will tell you what it usually means and what to do while we are on the way, like where your water meter is.

  2. We come and look

For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it properly first, and there is no charge for that visit. Guessing at a price over the phone helps nobody.

  3. You get the price in writing

The job priced, not an hourly rate ticking over. If there is more than one sensible way to do it, you get both options and the difference between them explained.

  4. We do the work

Our own licenced plumbers, on the day we said. Drop sheets down, the mess taken away, and a phone call rather than silence if we are running behind.

  5. You see what we found

Photos, camera footage where we used it, and a plain explanation of what was actually wrong. If something is not right afterwards, ring us and we come back and put it right at our cost.

A job we did here

A hidden leak behind Longueville kitchen cabinetry

The problem

A Longueville family noticed the water pressure drop and a damp patch spreading behind the kitchen cabinets. Both are signs the same thing is going on somewhere you cannot see it.

What we did

We brought leak detection gear rather than start pulling cabinetry out. There was a burst section of pipe in the wall behind the kitchen, slowly wetting the cabinet backs. We isolated it, replaced the damaged copper with material suited to the rest of the original system, and pressure tested the line before closing up.

The result

Pressure back to normal, the leak stopped before the cabinetry was ruined, and one small opening instead of a kitchen pulled apart. We also showed them what to watch for on the rest of the original run.

Not a claim, a count

The work we have actually done in Longueville

Our job records run from 2016. Since then we have completed 94 jobs in Longueville.

That is the figure out of our job management system, not a number we made up for the website. It is also why we can usually tell you on the phone what a problem probably is before anyone gets in a ute.

We are at your service, est. 2007

The most common of them

  • 43 taps, toilets and everyday repairs
  • 24 sewer and stormwater repairs
  • 17 blocked drains cleared
  • 17 roofing and guttering
  • 12 hot water repairs and replacements

Plenty of jobs cover more than one of these, so the numbers overlap rather than add up.

About the suburb

Plumbing in Longueville

Longueville, postcode 2066, is the peninsula next door to Lane Cove, running down between Woodford Bay and Tambourine Bay to the Lane Cove River. It's a suburb of Federation houses and Californian bungalows on quiet streets like Arabella Street and Kenneth Street, with bigger waterfront homes along the bays and around Tambourine Bay Reserve, and almost no flats.

The houses are old and so is the plumbing under them. Earthenware sewers with roots in the joints, galvanised water services that have rusted inside, and stormwater that was run wherever it would go. Most blocked drains we clear in Longueville are roots from the big old trees, and clearing only lasts until next spring. We put the camera down to find where they're getting in, jet the line, and reline it so they stay out.

The peninsula is steep, and the sewer lines run a long way downhill to the main, often across easements and through sandstone. A break can be a fair way from the house. Finding it with the camera before anyone digs is the difference between one hole in the right place and a torn-up garden. Stormwater off the roof has to be got away properly too, or it ends up under the house or in the neighbour's yard.

A lot of Longueville houses have been extended or rebuilt, had pools put in, or had a second storey added. The drains for those were sometimes tied into the old line badly, and where they were is where the trouble is now. We find those joins and fix them, and we do the plumbing for a new extension or a renovation from the ground up.

Galvanised water services show up as poor pressure and brown water after a day away. We replace the service from the meter in copper, and we check the main stop tap, which in these houses is often seized. Gutters and downpipes on the older houses are often original, and a blocked box gutter shows up as a stain on a ceiling the first heavy night of rain. Roof plumbing is part of what we do.

Outstanding! Excellent quality, professional and value for money. Kai and Tyrone did an outstanding job concreting in a 5m drain at the base of a retaining wall. They communicated clearly what they were doing, and left the working area in excellent condition each day.

Questions we get asked in Longueville

What does a plumber in Longueville cost?

It depends on the job, which is why we price the job rather than run an hourly rate. For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it first, at no charge, and you get the price in writing before we start.

Are your plumbers licenced and insured?

Yes. STS Plumbing Co Pty Ltd holds NSW licence 227192C and carries insurance, and the blokes who turn up are our own team, not subcontracted labour.

How quickly can you get here?

Our office is open Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we call back within 24 hours, guaranteed. For anything urgent, ring rather than fill in the form and we will tell you what it usually means and when we can be there.

Do you work on units and commercial buildings?

Yes. A good share of our work is strata and commercial across the North Shore, and it comes with photos and a written finding a building manager or committee can act on.

Do I need a sewer pump on a block like mine?

Only if the fall will not do the work. Plenty of Longueville blocks are steep enough that gravity handles it, and some, particularly the ones with a lower level added later, are not. We work that out from the levels and the camera survey, not from the look of the driveway.

Do you warrant your work?

Yes. If something is not right after we have left, ring us and we will come back and put it right at our cost. That is part of the STS Guarantee above.
