Plumber in Waverton

Blocked drains, sewer repairs, roofing and hot water across Waverton, where terraces and semis sit on sandstone and the streets are steep and tight.

What we get called out to in Waverton

  • Terraces and semis on shared lines. A blockage next door can be your problem. We find out whose line it actually is.
  • Sandstone. It changes how a repair is dug, so we look before we price it.
  • Tight access. Narrow frontages and no side path. We plan the job on the site visit, not on the day.
  • Unit blocks. Stacks and common drains, with a written finding for the strata manager.
  • Harbour weather on roofs. Flashings and gutters worn by salt air.

Waverton is ten minutes from Crows Nest, where we were based from 2010 to 2016.

What we do here

In more detail

The three we get called about most

Shared lines in terraces

A lot of Waverton terraces and semis share a sewer line with the house next door, which means a blockage on their side becomes your problem and nobody can agree whose it is.

We camera the line and find out where the blockage actually is, and whose side it sits on. Then you have something in writing rather than an argument over the fence.

Blocked drains

Sandstone and tight access

Narrow frontages, no side path, steep driveways and rock under all of it. A job that looks simple from the street is often not.

We plan the access on the site visit rather than working it out on the day with a truck parked across the road. Where digging through rock would cost more than it is worth, relining is usually the better answer.

Sewer repairs

Roofs and gutters

Close to the harbour, flashings corrode and gutters rust through, and on a terrace roof there is nowhere for an overflow to go but inside.

We find what is actually causing a roof leak rather than sealing the likeliest spot, then repair it. Gutters, valleys, flashings, downpipes and box gutters between terraces.

Roofing and gutters

It’s an emergency! I’d better ring STS.

How we work with you

What happens from the first phone call

  1. You get in touch

Ring the office, send the form or email us. For anything urgent, ring — we will tell you what it usually means and what to do while we are on the way, like where your water meter is.

  2. We come and look

For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it properly first, and there is no charge for that visit. Guessing at a price over the phone helps nobody.

  3. You get the price in writing

The job priced, not an hourly rate ticking over. If there is more than one sensible way to do it, you get both options and the difference between them explained.

  4. We do the work

Our own licenced plumbers, on the day we said. Drop sheets down, the mess taken away, and a phone call rather than silence if we are running behind.

  5. You see what we found

Photos, camera footage where we used it, and a plain explanation of what was actually wrong. If something is not right afterwards, ring us and we come back and put it right at our cost.

The problem

A Waverton family found water damage appearing behind their kitchen wall with nothing visibly leaking. By the time damage shows on the surface, the wall behind it has usually been wet for a while.

What we did

We used leak detection gear to find the wet run before opening anything up, which on a terrace with limited access matters more than usual. We located the damaged pipework, replaced it, pressure tested the line, and made good the lining that had to come out.

The result

The leak was stopped before it reached the framing, so there was nothing structural to repair. One opening, one repair, and they knew the price before we started.

Not a claim, a count

The work we have actually done in Waverton

Our job records run from 2016. Since then we have completed 98 jobs in Waverton.

That is the figure out of our job management system, not a number we made up for the website. It is also why we can usually tell you on the phone what a problem probably is before anyone gets in a ute.

We are at your service, est. 2007

The most common of them

  • 54 taps, toilets and everyday repairs
  • 12 blocked drains cleared
  • 11 roofing and guttering
  • 11 sewer and stormwater repairs
  • 6 hot water repairs and replacements

Plenty of jobs cover more than one of these, so the numbers overlap rather than add up.

About the suburb

Plumbing in Waverton

Waverton, postcode 2060, is a harbourside suburb of Federation and interwar houses on steep streets running down to Balls Head and Berrys Bay, with a short run of shops on Bay Road near the station and a handful of unit blocks near the highway. It's a quiet suburb with old houses, and old houses have old plumbing.

Most of the sewers here are original earthenware, and most of the blocked drains we clear are roots in the joints. Clearing the line gets you a few months; the camera and a reline gets you a fix. Where a pipe has actually collapsed, usually where a tree has lifted it, we replace that section and leave the rest alone.

Water services in Waverton's older houses are often galvanised steel, and by now they've rusted to the point where the pressure drops and the water runs brown after a day away. We replace the service from the meter in copper, and while we're at it we check the main stop tap, which in these houses is often seized.

The slope matters. Sewer lines run a long way downhill to the main across easements, and stormwater from the roof has to be got away or it goes under the house. Being able to see the pipe with the camera before digging means one hole in the right spot, which on a Waverton block with a sandstone retaining wall in the way is the difference between a morning and a week.

Waverton is ten minutes from Crows Nest, where STS was based from 2010 to 2016, and a short run from Lane Cove, where we are now. Ring us for anything urgent, or ask us to come and look at a bigger job. There's no charge for the site visit.

Just had the STS boys out to fix up our sewer issue. Such a gun team, very efficient and so nice to deal with.

Questions we get asked in Waverton

What does a plumber in Waverton cost?

It depends on the job, which is why we price the job rather than run an hourly rate. For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it first, at no charge, and you get the price in writing before we start.

Are your plumbers licenced and insured?

Yes. STS Plumbing Co Pty Ltd holds NSW licence 227192C and carries insurance, and the blokes who turn up are our own team, not subcontracted labour.

How quickly can you get here?

Our office is open Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we call back within 24 hours, guaranteed. For anything urgent, ring rather than fill in the form and we will tell you what it usually means and when we can be there.

Do you work on units and commercial buildings?

Yes. A good share of our work is strata and commercial across the North Shore, and it comes with photos and a written finding a building manager or committee can act on.

My neighbour's blockage keeps backing up into my place. Who pays?

It depends where the blockage is on the shared line, and that is a question the camera answers rather than the two of you. We film it, mark where the problem is, and give you both the same report. Most disputes over a shared sewer stop the moment somebody has actual footage.

Do you warrant your work?

Yes. If something is not right after we have left, ring us and we will come back and put it right at our cost. That is part of the STS Guarantee above.
