What we get called out to in Lane Cove
- Roots in old sewer lines. Leafy streets and bushland reserves near the river mean roots in clay pipe joints are everyday work.
- Heritage houses and newer apartments. Clay sewer under the older homes, strata plumbing in the blocks around the village.
- Sloping blocks. Stormwater that needs somewhere to go, and sewer lines with a long fall.
- Hot water and gas. Systems repaired, replaced and upgraded, including heat pumps.
- Bathroom renovations. Run start to finish, with the waterproofing done properly.
We know these streets well, because we have been based here since 2016.
In more detail
The three we get called about most
Blocked drains
Leafy streets and bushland reserves near the river mean roots at the joints of old clay pipe. It is everyday work for us and most of it is within a few minutes of the office.
We jet the line, camera it and show you what was in there. Where the pipe is sound that is the whole job. Where a joint has failed you see it on the screen before anyone talks about digging.
Blocked drainsBathroom renovations
We run the plumbing side of a bathroom start to finish, from rough-in through waterproofing to fit-off, and we work to the builder's programme rather than our own.
The waterproofing is done by licenced hands and certified, because that is the part nobody sees and the part that causes the trouble when it is skipped.
Bathroom renovationsHot water
Storage, continuous flow and heat pump, in the houses and in the blocks around the village. Most replacements we do here were avoidable a year earlier.
We will tell you straight whether the unit in front of us is worth repairing. If it is, we repair it. If it is not, we size the replacement for the house and take the old one away.
Hot waterIt’s an emergency! I’d better ring STS.
Old fashioned service. Modern day plumbing.

How we work with you
What happens from the first phone call
-
You get in touch
Ring the office, send the form or email us. For anything urgent, ring — we will tell you what it usually means and what to do while we are on the way, like where your water meter is.
-
We come and look
For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it properly first, and there is no charge for that visit. Guessing at a price over the phone helps nobody.
-
You get the price in writing
The job priced, not an hourly rate ticking over. If there is more than one sensible way to do it, you get both options and the difference between them explained.
-
We do the work
Our own licenced plumbers, on the day we said. Drop sheets down, the mess taken away, and a phone call rather than silence if we are running behind.
-
You see what we found
Photos, camera footage where we used it, and a plain explanation of what was actually wrong. If something is not right afterwards, ring us and we come back and put it right at our cost.
A job we did here
Two bathrooms and the pressure problem behind them
The problem
A couple who had been in their Lane Cove house fifteen years wanted both bathrooms done. They also had weak shower pressure, hot water that ran out, and a leak under the vanity, and they did not want to move any walls to fix it.
What we did
We ran a camera through the lines and pressure tested them before quoting. Several sections of copper had corroded and the hot water was routed the long way round, which was where the pressure was going. We replaced the aged pipework, fitted a thermostatic mixing valve, upgraded the tapware and moved the hot water unit closer to the ensuite.
The result
Proper shower pressure in both bathrooms and hot water that keeps up, without a single wall being moved. We worked around their days, cleaned up each evening, and they knew where the job was at the whole way through.

What the work actually looks like

Not a claim, a count
The work we have actually done in Lane Cove
Our job records run from 2016. Since then we have completed 586 jobs in Lane Cove.
That is the figure out of our job management system, not a number we made up for the website. It is also why we can usually tell you on the phone what a problem probably is before anyone gets in a ute.
The most common of them
- 271 taps, toilets and everyday repairs
- 183 blocked drains cleared
- 144 sewer and stormwater repairs
- 88 roofing and guttering
- 40 hot water repairs and replacements
Plenty of jobs cover more than one of these, so the numbers overlap rather than add up.
About the suburb
Plumbing in Lane Cove
Lane Cove, postcode 2066, is our own suburb. STS has been based here since 2016, so the streets between the village, Burns Bay Road and the national park are the ones we're in most days. It's a suburb of Federation and interwar houses on the older streets, postwar brick homes further out, and a lot of unit blocks, particularly through Lane Cove North and along Longueville Road.
The older houses around the village and towards Longueville have original clay sewer lines, and the street trees and old camphor laurels have been finding the joints for decades. Roots are the cause of most blocked drains we clear in Lane Cove. We clear them, put the camera down to see exactly where the roots are getting in, and reline the pipe so they can't get back in. The galvanised water services in those houses are often near the end of their life too, and low pressure or discoloured water is the sign.
Lane Cove's unit blocks range from 1960s walk-ups to new buildings, and they share their sewer stacks, stormwater and often their hot water. We do a lot of strata work here and we know the buildings. For a strata manager that means the camera goes down first, the finding comes back in writing with photos, and the committee can make a decision without a second call-out.
The village shops along Longueville Road and Burns Bay Road are local businesses we know by name. When a cafe has a blocked drain at seven in the morning, being ten minutes away is the whole point.
Lane Cove is hilly and the stormwater has a long way to run. Roofs, gutters and downpipes on the older houses are often original, and a blocked box gutter shows up as a stain on a ceiling the first heavy night of rain. We do roof plumbing and gutter replacement as well as the drains underneath.
If you're in Lane Cove, we're your local plumber in the plainest sense. Ring us. For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we'll come and look first, at no charge.

Sarah L., Lane CoveQuestions we get asked in Lane Cove
What does a plumber in Lane Cove cost?
It depends on the job, which is why we price the job rather than run an hourly rate. For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it first, at no charge, and you get the price in writing before we start.
Are your plumbers licenced and insured?
Yes. STS Plumbing Co Pty Ltd holds NSW licence 227192C and carries insurance, and the blokes who turn up are our own team, not subcontracted labour.
How quickly can you get here?
Our office is open Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we call back within 24 hours, guaranteed. For anything urgent, ring rather than fill in the form and we will tell you what it usually means and when we can be there.
Do you work on units and commercial buildings?
Yes. A good share of our work is strata and commercial across the North Shore, and it comes with photos and a written finding a building manager or committee can act on.
My shower pressure is terrible. Is that the council's problem?
Occasionally, but usually not. Nine times out of ten it is corroded pipework inside the house narrowing the flow, or hot water routed a long way from where it is used. A pressure test at the meter and at the outlet tells you which one it is in about twenty minutes.
Do you warrant your work?
Yes. If something is not right after we have left, ring us and we will come back and put it right at our cost. That is part of the STS Guarantee above.
