Upper North Shore

Plumber in Pymble

Sewer repairs, drains, hot water and roofing across Pymble, where large blocks, tall gums and long sewer runs come with most houses.

What we get called out to in Pymble

  • Long sewer runs. Big blocks mean long lines and plenty of joints for roots to find.
  • Tall trees. Roots found on camera, then cleared, relined or dug and replaced.
  • Sloping blocks. Stormwater that ends up under the house, fixed at the cause.
  • Older homes. Original pipework and hot water systems due for replacement.
  • Big roofs and gutters. Leaves, valleys and box gutters that need regular attention.

Pymble is part of our regular Upper North Shore run.

What we do here

In more detail

The three we get called about most

Long sewer runs

Large blocks with tall gums on them, and a sewer line that runs a long way before it reaches the main. Every joint on that run is a way in for a root.

We camera the full length rather than clearing the first blockage and leaving. Where a section has failed we can usually reline it, which saves a trench across a garden that took thirty years to establish.

Sewer repairs

Stormwater

A sloping block and a big roof send a lot of water somewhere in a storm. When the drainage cannot take it, it goes under the house.

We work out where the water is meant to go and where it is actually going, then put in the pits, lines and pumps to fix the difference. It is drainage work, not a leak, and it is priced after we have looked.

Drainage and stormwater

Big roofs and gutters

Gum leaves, large tile roofs, valleys and box gutters. Gutters that fill every autumn, and a box gutter that overflows into the house rather than out of it.

We clear and repair gutters, valleys, flashings and downpipes, and find what is actually causing a roof leak. Guard fitted where it genuinely helps rather than everywhere.

Roofing and gutters

It’s an emergency! I’d better ring STS.

How we work with you

What happens from the first phone call

  1. You get in touch

Ring the office, send the form or email us. For anything urgent, ring — we will tell you what it usually means and what to do while we are on the way, like where your water meter is.

  2. We come and look

For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it properly first, and there is no charge for that visit. Guessing at a price over the phone helps nobody.

  3. You get the price in writing

The job priced, not an hourly rate ticking over. If there is more than one sensible way to do it, you get both options and the difference between them explained.

  4. We do the work

Our own licenced plumbers, on the day we said. Drop sheets down, the mess taken away, and a phone call rather than silence if we are running behind.

  5. You see what we found

Photos, camera footage where we used it, and a plain explanation of what was actually wrong. If something is not right afterwards, ring us and we come back and put it right at our cost.

The problem

A Pymble homeowner found water under the kitchen sink and had no idea how long it had been running. Her worry was what it had already done to the floor and the cabinets she could not see behind.

What we did

We came out, isolated it, and found a failed section of pipe rather than a loose fitting. It was replaced with new pipe and the line was pressure tested before we left. We also checked the connections to the dishwasher and the taps while everything was apart.

The result

A contained repair and a dry cupboard, because it was dealt with before it reached the floor. She got the price before we started and the area was left clean.

Not a claim, a count

The work we have actually done in Pymble

Our job records run from 2016. Since then we have completed 40 jobs in Pymble.

That is the figure out of our job management system, not a number we made up for the website. It is also why we can usually tell you on the phone what a problem probably is before anyone gets in a ute.

We are at your service, est. 2007

The most common of them

  • 16 taps, toilets and everyday repairs
  • 14 roofing and guttering
  • 3 blocked drains cleared
  • 3 hot water repairs and replacements
  • 3 sewer and stormwater repairs

Plenty of jobs cover more than one of these, so the numbers overlap rather than add up.

About the suburb

Plumbing in Pymble

Pymble, postcode 2073, is on the Upper North Shore between Gordon and Turramurra, with the Pacific Highway and the railway running through the middle and the shops on the highway near the station. It's a suburb of big Federation and interwar houses on big blocks along leafy streets like Grandview Street and Avon Road, with West Pymble running down towards the Lane Cove River and a small number of newer apartment buildings near the station.

The houses set the plumbing. A Pymble home from the 1910s or 20s has an earthenware sewer with roots in the joints, a galvanised water service that has narrowed inside, and long pipe runs across a large block to the main. Most blocked drains we clear in Pymble are roots from the street trees and the old gardens, and clearing them only buys time. We camera the line, jet it and reline it so the roots stay out and the garden stays intact.

Poor pressure is the other common call. A galvanised service that's rusted to half its bore can't feed two bathrooms, a laundry and a garden at once. We replace the service from the meter in copper, and we check the main stop tap while we're there, because in these houses it's often seized.

Big blocks mean big gardens, and a lot of Pymble houses have irrigation, outdoor taps, pool plumbing, a tennis court and a studio or granny flat at the back. Where those were tied into the old drains badly is usually where the trouble starts. We find those joins with the camera and fix them, and we do the plumbing for a new extension or flat properly from the start.

Storms come through hard on the ridge, and the box gutters and downpipes on the older houses are often original. A blocked gutter shows up as a stain on a ceiling the first heavy night of rain. Roof plumbing and stormwater drainage are part of what we do, and it's cheaper to replace a gutter than to fix a ceiling.

Pymble is part of our regular Upper North Shore run. STS has been based in Lane Cove since 2016, a short run up the highway. Ring us for anything urgent, or ask us to come and look at a bigger job. There's no charge for the site visit.

What our customers say

Great job carried out today at my rental property. Appreciated the plumber calling whilst on site to provide a full assessment of what needed to be done. Job was done quickly after my initial contact. STS will be my designated plumber from now on.

Questions we get asked in Pymble

What does a plumber in Pymble cost?

It depends on the job, which is why we price the job rather than run an hourly rate. For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it first, at no charge, and you get the price in writing before we start.

Are your plumbers licenced and insured?

Yes. STS Plumbing Co Pty Ltd holds NSW licence 227192C and carries insurance, and the blokes who turn up are our own team, not subcontracted labour.

How quickly can you get here?

Our office is open Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we call back within 24 hours, guaranteed. For anything urgent, ring rather than fill in the form and we will tell you what it usually means and when we can be there.

Do you work on units and commercial buildings?

Yes. A good share of our work is strata and commercial across the North Shore, and it comes with photos and a written finding a building manager or committee can act on.

How often should a long sewer line be checked?

On a big Pymble block with mature trees, a camera run every few years is cheap insurance. Roots get in slowly, and there is a long stretch between the first hairline intrusion and the blockage that backs up into the house. Finding it early is the difference between a reline and an excavation.

Do you warrant your work?

Yes. If something is not right after we have left, ring us and we will come back and put it right at our cost. That is part of the STS Guarantee above.
