- Upfront pricing, agreed before we start
- Our own licenced team, not subbies
What we get called out to in Crows Nest
- Terraces and semis on shared lines. A blockage next door can be your problem, so it pays to find out whose line it actually is.
- Old clay under new renovations. Plenty of kitchens and bathrooms here sit over a line nobody has looked at in decades.
- Tight access. Narrow frontages and no side path change how a repair is done. We work that out on the site visit, not on the day.
- Shops and offices. Willoughby Road and the Pacific Highway, with commercial work booked so it does not shut you down.
- Unit blocks. Stacks, risers and common drains, with photos and a written finding for the building manager.
We were based in Crows Nest from 2010 to 2016 and we are ten minutes up the road in Lane Cove now, so these are streets we know.
In more detail
The three we get called about most
Shared sewer lines
The terraces and semis behind Willoughby Road often share one sewer line between two or three houses, which is fine until it blocks and nobody knows whose problem it is.
We camera the line and show you exactly where the blockage sits and whose side it is on. That turns a dispute over the fence into a decision, and it is in writing either way.
Blocked drainsTight access and reinstatement
Narrow frontages, no side path, parking you have to book and a footpath that has to stay usable. On a Crows Nest terrace, getting to the pipe is half the job.
We plan access on the site visit rather than on the morning, and putting the ground, the paving and the garden back the way we found them is part of the price rather than an extra.
Sewer repairsShops, offices and strata
Willoughby Road and the highway mean cafes, salons, offices and medical suites, plus a lot of unit blocks behind them.
We book the work around your trading hours, keep the area clean while we are in it, and hand back photos and a written finding a building manager or a committee can act on.

Old fashioned service. Modern day plumbing.

How we work with you
What happens from the first phone call
-
You get in touch
Ring the office, send the form or email us. For anything urgent, ring — we will tell you what it usually means and what to do while we are on the way, like where your water meter is.
-
We come and look
For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it properly first, and there is no charge for that visit. Guessing at a price over the phone helps nobody.
-
You get the price in writing
The job priced, not an hourly rate ticking over. If there is more than one sensible way to do it, you get both options and the difference between them explained.
-
We do the work
Our own licenced plumbers, on the day we said. Drop sheets down, the mess taken away, and a phone call rather than silence if we are running behind.
-
You see what we found
Photos, camera footage where we used it, and a plain explanation of what was actually wrong. If something is not right afterwards, ring us and we come back and put it right at our cost.
A job we did here
Recurring sewer blockages in a Crows Nest strata building
The problem
A strata manager called us about a small block on Burlington Street where residents kept reporting slow drains and the occasional toilet overflow. Another company had already been through it more than once. The building is over forty years old, still on its original clay pipes, and built on a concrete slab, so access was limited.
What we did
We ran the camera through the affected lines and found heavy root intrusion plus a collapsed section near the rear of the property. We jetted it to get the building working again that day, then gave the committee a written report with the footage and two options priced: excavate, or reline without digging. They chose relining, and we did it over two days.
The result
Flow restored to every unit with no demolition, no jackhammering through the slab and very little disruption to residents. The committee got documentation they could file, and a fixed price that did not move.

Not a claim, a count
The work we have actually done in Crows Nest
Our job records run from 2016. Since then we have completed 701 jobs in Crows Nest.
That is the figure out of our job management system, not a number we made up for the website. It is also why we can usually tell you on the phone what a problem probably is before anyone gets in a ute.
The most common of them
- 361 taps, toilets and everyday repairs
- 142 blocked drains cleared
- 95 roofing and guttering
- 90 sewer and stormwater repairs
- 81 hot water repairs and replacements
Plenty of jobs cover more than one of these, so the numbers overlap rather than add up.
About the suburb
Plumbing in Crows Nest
Crows Nest, postcode 2065, is one of the busiest suburbs on the Lower North Shore. It sits high on the ridge, about 93 metres above sea level, with a mix of Federation and interwar houses, art deco flats, newer apartment buildings and the cafe and shop strip along Willoughby Road. The plumbing is as mixed as the buildings.
In the older streets around Burlington Street, Ernest Street and Albany Street, the water services are often original galvanised steel or early copper. That shows up as poor pressure, brown water when a tap is first turned on, and drains that run slow because the pipes have narrowed inside. We replace the worn sections with new copper, and where the whole run has had it we replace the run, without tearing walls or floors apart to get at it.
The unit blocks off Oxley Street, Clarke Street and along the Pacific Highway share their sewer stacks, common drains and often their hot water plant. A blockage or a leak in one of those affects every flat on the stack, so we work with the strata manager, put the camera down first, and hand over photos and a written finding the committee can act on. That matters more in a building with sixty owners than it does in a house.
The cafes, gyms and shops along Willoughby Road and Alexander Street ring us for the things that stop trade: a blocked grease trap, a tap that won't turn off in the customer toilet, a hot water unit that's given up on a Saturday morning. We turn up when we say we will and keep the mess out of the front of house.
Crows Nest slopes hard towards the Pacific Highway and towards Willoughby, and a summer storm finds every weak point in a roof. In streets like Sinclair Street and Holtermann Street that means overflowing gutters, downpipes that back up and water pooling against a front door. Roof plumbing, box gutters and downpipes are part of what we do, and we'd rather fix a gutter than a ceiling.
STS was based in Crows Nest from 2010 to 2016 and we're ten minutes away in Lane Cove now, so these are streets we're in most weeks. If you've got a problem in Crows Nest, ring us. For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we'll come and look at it first, and there's no charge for that visit.

Strata manager, Crows NestQuestions we get asked in Crows Nest
What does a plumber in Crows Nest cost?
It depends on the job, which is why we price the job rather than run an hourly rate. For anything bigger than a straightforward repair we come and look at it first, at no charge, and you get the price in writing before we start.
Are your plumbers licenced and insured?
Yes. STS Plumbing Co Pty Ltd holds NSW licence 227192C and carries insurance, and the blokes who turn up are our own team, not subcontracted labour.
How quickly can you get here?
Our office is open Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we call back within 24 hours, guaranteed. For anything urgent, ring rather than fill in the form and we will tell you what it usually means and when we can be there.
Do you work on units and commercial buildings?
Yes. A good share of our work is strata and commercial across the North Shore, and it comes with photos and a written finding a building manager or committee can act on.
Can you reline a sewer under a concrete slab?
Usually, and that is normally the whole reason to do it. Relining goes in through an existing access point, so nothing has to be cut or jackhammered. What decides it is the condition of the old pipe on camera, not what is sitting over the top of it.
Do you warrant your work?
Yes. If something is not right after we have left, ring us and we will come back and put it right at our cost. That is part of the STS Guarantee above.
